The Indigenous/Science cluster involves diverse researchers who use their expertise to assist communities in answering important questions

Our cluster formed in 2017 with UBC researchers from 4 faculties (Arts, Science, Education, and Medicine) and 12 departments/schools/units: Anthropology, History, Philosophy, Earth Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences, Chemistry, Educational Studies, Population Health, Centre for Applied Ethics, the Museum of Anthropology (MOA), the First Nations and Endangered Languages Program, the Laboratory of Archaeology (LOA), and the Pacific Centre for Isotopic and Geochemical Research (PCIGR).

In 2018, we hosted a series of talks on partnership development between Indigenous communities and universities, culminating in an Indigenous/Science Workshop held at Musqueam and attended by representatives of seven local First Nations.

In 2019, we hosted a seminar series in collaboration with Green College, the Green College Cross-Sectoral Series: Indigenous/Science Partnerships - Exploring Histories and Environments.

In 2020, we hosted the Working Tools Seminar series on knowledge mobilization and digital platforms in university-community partnerships.

In 2021, we received an SSHRC Partnership Development Grant for Materializing Indigenous Histories in partnership with Musqueam, Metlakatla, Sts'ailes, and the Métis Nation of Alberta.

In 2021, in response to the announcement of the discovery of missing children from the Kamloops Indian Residential School, we worked with Musqueam to develop a ground-penetrating radar training course for Indigenous communities.
